If you're asking my opinion? It opens MS Office files (and saves back in that format too if you want it to). I've been running it for years and gets along well as long as I don't do layout-critical documents that will have to go through other office suits (such as MS Office) since, like with other open files, you don't know exactly what it will look like when it opens somewhere else.
It takes some adjustment and it's doesn't have all the features as MS Office but for home use it's all right.
I prefer LibreOffice to OpenOffice. It is more current, better supported, has more features, and is more compatible with Microsoft Office products.
Thanks....At this point, I only need a basic word processor for letters that I can print out when need be. Will look into LibreOffice as well.
LibreOffice is the way to go... swithed and never looked back.
Same source code as OpenOffice but it works 10x better. They also have localization in many languages which is very nice, very well done.
many thanks to all who replied. LibreOffice will be my choice.
