Touchpad Batteries Die

Recently I changed the batteries in the touchpad because of low battery alert, 14%, but I was concerned that the bateries had died prematurely. I changed one battery and thebattery level went back to 100% and I thought that there must have been a problem with the battery that I replaced. Now two days later I have the same symptom of low battery, 14%. Is this a touchpad problem or could it be somehow computer related as the computer is on for several hours at a time along with the touchpad? I have had both the computer and the touch pad forabout 3 years.
