I got a new laptop for christmas to replace my 2010 iMac, but I still want to use the iMac as a external display. The laptop has 2 mini display ports and 1 hdmi port. The iMac has 1 mini display port. If i cant connect with any of those cables, is there a way to do it via software?

This will only work with another Mac. It will not work with a PC.
After later doing more rechearch, I found that the ports between the two devices are not compadible. I did, however find a program that should work wirelessly called "Air Display" . I havre not tried it yet, but it seems like it would work.
