crash after memory upgrade

I have added additional Memory to my iMac (21.5inch, Mid 2010, 4GB RAM). I have tried adding 2x8GB (Corsair, 1333, DDR3, Mac Memory) or 2x4GB (Corsair, 1333, DDR3, Mac memory). The Mac can start, identifies the additional memory but when additional memory is needed by the OS (e.g. launch of iTunes and Aperture), it crashes. I have also tried removing the original memory and only add the new memory bars. Same behaviour. With the original memory the Mac works normally.

What am I doing wrong?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

If the system works with the original memory and not with the new memory ether the new memory is bad or not compatible with the iMac.

If you put the new memory in one at a time and it works with one stick and not the other then you know that stick is bad. If it doesn't work with either new stick then most likely it is not compatible.

Mac's are very picky, what are the full spec's of the Corsair RAM...?

Compare them to > iMac (Mid 2010): Memory specifications
