quicktime player !

how do i get to where i need to with quicktime player? what i mean is: i want to record my own screen. i downloaded quicktime player, but the icon shows up as a box. when i click the box (quicktime player), a box pops up telling me to download quicktime again. im so confused!! can anyone help me?

Quicktime should already be installed as part of the Mavericks operating system.

Do you see the program in your Applications folder? The article below explains how to use it:

OS X includes QuickTime Player (version 10.x) which handles most media playback needs. Only Install QuickTime Player 7 if you work with older media types, have legacy workflows that are not supported by the newer QuickTime Player application, or need to use your QuickTime 7 Pro registration key.
