outgoing Mail not working since 10.9.1 Maverick update

Since updating to Mavericks 10.9.1 & Mail 7.1 my mail has been all messed up. Outgoing mail server is correct but still says offline no matter. I can get mail, but can not send anything out. I can get mail on other devices so this is not a provider issue. Any one else ran into this.

I have the same problem. None of the "Troubleshooting" steps helps.

So I can send and receive via my iPhone and iPad and also via my mail providers webmail interface confirming that there is nothing wrong with the account. I can also send via Outlook a different computer with this account.

Since the 10.9.1 upgrade all SMTP servers in Mail are reporting as "Offline".

Connection doctor gives the generic "Cannot connect to this SMTP server" message and makes suggestions about SSL. Well my email service does use SSL and I can access the webmail via https etc. Also I've been using this account with no problems in Apple Mail for 2+ yrs. Only since the 10.9.1 upgrade is there an issue.

I've restarted my computer multiple times, repaired permissions, sudo periodic daily weekly monthly, run Memory Keeper.

Is there a way to back out the 10.9.1 patch? Failing that or any other bright ideas I'll be on webmail or Thunderbird I guess as Outook is too hideous a fate to consider.

Well - I fixed the issue by running Keychain First Aid. Weirdly when I ran verify in Keychain First Aid it reported "No problems found". I ran Repair on the Keychain anyway and immediately mail started sending again.

To run Keychain First Aid just spotlight Keychain then it's Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.

Note that Verify is selected by default so you'll have to manually select Repair

Hopefull this helps someone else out there.

I appear to have found a fix, though it was a bit of a fluke.

I run multiple inboxes, and my issue was that 3 out of the 4 outgoing servers was showing as "offline", therefore any email I sent, no matter which email address I intended it to go from, they all sent out of the one, which was a business account - not what I was going for.

I discovered that somewhere along the line some passwords had gone missing. The fix (at least how I fixed it, if there's a less roundabout way of doing this, please let me know).

I don't know if these directions will work unless you're running multiple email accounts, but this is how it looked for me.

1) Compose a fresh email.

2) There will be two drop down menus below the address fields. One is the "from" email address, one is for the outgoing server. Select the outgoing server drop down menu

3) Select "Edit SMTP Server List..."

4) When the list appears, select each active server from the top and make sure there is a password entered. In my case, the 3 out of the 4 that weren't working had the password field blank (also make sure none of them have "use only this server" checked).

Once I filled in these passwords, it all seemingly began working again.

If anyone has a quicker way of getting to the "Edit SMPT Server List..." page that would probably help.

Hope this helps someone out there.

You can get into your Edit SMTP list quickly by choosing Mail > Preferences > Accounts. With any one of your email accounts chosen, choose Account Information. You'll see Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) with your servers or the choice to "Edit Server List." That helps you run through all of them fairly quickly.

I'm having slow incoming and outgoing mail too since the update, but I ran tests using my other accounts, and found that the probable issue is under the Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced pane. If I use my provider's suggestion for SSL, it's hanging up. Using their non-SSL port and unchecking Use SSL is helping, I think.

Also, you can quickly test all your emails using each other by creating a Contacts Group called Testing. Put "Test" as the first name, and make the last name be each of your email addresses. Now you can just send to "Testing" group without a bunch of selections.
