MacBook Pro with Retina Display is normally 80°C hot. Is it normal?

Hi friends,

I would like to know if MacBook Pro with Retina Display is normally 80°C hot when doing mostly any kind of work besides reading the screen.

I tried to document this with some screenshots.

It is getting more than 80°C too frecuently and I think that fans are activated after 90°C or so.

If I manually activate them with smcFanControl tool then temperature goes down.

The laptop is quite new. it has 3 months old.

I am not sure, but I think that it wasn't getting that Hot before.

May it be possible that an upgrade changed the upper margins for the fan activation ? It has OS X 10.8.5.

I live in a very cold place and it gets really hot even on the table, but if I were on a business travel to other hotter places, would it burnout ?

I have buyed the most expensive computer on the world to not have this kind of problems. Will it be fixed soon?

I would appreciate any help.

Saludos

Diego

80c is not dangerouly hot, the Mac will shut down automatically if it over heats. Temps will vary depending on what applications you are using.

You can try a SMC reset which controls fans, maybe there is a problem with the sensor that controls the fans, or you may have had a fan failure.

SMC reset:

Follow dierections for a battery you should not remove yourself.

If you still have concerns, bring it to an Apple store Genius bar and have it checked out. You have a 1 year warranty (an additional 2 years if you purchsed AppleCare)

Take full advantage of your warranty!
