My daughter and I just upgraded to iphone 5c phones. Her airdrop works fine and will drop photos to my phone and I can accept them but when I select a photo and touch the thumbprint nothing happens. We are connected to the same wifi. What is wrong?

I have the same problem with latest iOS. I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1 just for this feature and it won't work at all. The other device is an iPad Air with iOS 7.1 as well. I cannot see anyone from either device.
Trying to send a photo and when i tap the airdrop icon in share screen nothing happens.
Both devices have bluetooth and wifi enabled and are on the same network.
I have set both to airdrop everyone.
Turned off and on both devices, nothing.
Any clue?
