i have an imac OS X Lion 10.7.5 desktop..
someone suggested omnidisksweeper..
but the site says requires
OS X v10.8+
so this is useless for me or ...should i try it.

OS X 10.8 + means OS X 10.8 and greater OS.
You can download and install OmniDiskSweeper by going to the actual website on install an earlier, older version.
It looks as if the older versions of OmniDiskSweeper are no longer available.
I don't think the current version will install on OS X 10.7 Lion.

Did you successfully install a legacy version from the developer's website or its associated forums? The legacy version exists, but be wary of third party sites (CNET, in particular) purporting to have it. I'm posting this in good faith, not for a checkmark.
