Q: iPhone photo stream: photos only intermittently uploading

The problem is, new photos taken on iPhone iOS 7.0.4 not uploading to iCloud, and not making it to iPhoto for Mac 9.5.1

Yesterday I was out taking photos on my iPhone 4s, iOS 7.0.4

  • Photo Stream is enabled, as is Photo Sharing
  • The iCloud account is logged in

I return home, open my laptop

  • MacBook Pro, OS 10.9.1, iPhoto 9.5.1
  • Photo Stream and Automatic Import are both enabled
  • It is on the WiFi network

Both devices are signed using the same iCloud credentials.  First, the iPhone:

  • The iPhone has more than 20% battery , and was plugged into a power supply
  • I’d quit out of the Photos app (by double pressing the home button….)
  • The iPhone was on the same home WiFI network.

On both devices I tried various combinations of things:

  • Turning Photo Stream on and off
  • Logging out of iCloud
  • Taking a picture on the phone, expecting it to appear in iPhoto for Mac.

When i logged disabled Photo Stream, and re-enabled it on the MBP in iPhoto, the usual Photo Stream photos reappeared, but not the photos I’d taken yesterday.  This would imply that the problem is with the iPhone not uploading photos to Photo Stream.

  • Today I take a screen shot on the iPhone and, it does upload to Photo Stream
  • I take a photo, and it doesn’t upload to Photo Stream

So, screenshots are making it to Photo Stream, but not photos!

Something is broken here.  I’ve checked, and double checked settings.

Any advise appreciated.  Or at least some confirmation that I’ve done everything right and it is a bug that needs resolving.

I’ve heard that it may have something to do with the router.  But, this morning, the screenshot / photo test that was carried out on the same WIFi network, illiminates this.

But now, I’m on a different WiFI network, I just took a photo, and behold, that photo, and the one I took this morning, have made it to my Macbook Pro.  But, all the photos I took yesterday haven’t made it to my Macbook Pro.  I mean, jeez, the one time I want this to work....

I suppose the only option, aside from connecting my iPhone to the computer / iTunes,  is to create a shared stream on my phone.  I’ll report back on this...

I have the same problem, and have tried everything you mentioned. This is a very descriptive text, thank you for saying precisely how this is a problem with the iCloud and PhotoStream. I have a similar problem where, Photo Stream will quit uploading pictures from my phone. I mess around turning things on and off switching back and forth from iCloud Photo Library to just using Photo Stream.  My MacBook will start uploading pictures to the photo stream completely at random from one year of my library, while that will wipe out my current camera roll's photo stream from my phone.  I don't even pay for enough cloud storage to hold my whole MacBooks library, so obviously it stops and 1000 pictures. This is just weird sometimes I kinda of like it but especially hate it after a vacation and I want to see my current pictures run on AppleTV for a screen saver.
