Wrong Lightening Adapter

Hi I recently bought a lightening to 30-pin adapter for my iPhone 5s. The case I have on the phone means the adapter does not fit into the phone without removing the case each time. Therefore I need to change it to another lightning adapter with a little bit of cable between the different fittings. As the product has been opened will apple still allow me to exchange the product as it has not yet been used?
