Downloading OS X Mavericks on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I am attempting to download OS X Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, which is currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Mavericks is compatible with Snow Leopard. When I go to download Mavericks in the app store, it says downloading, but nothing happens, and there is nothing to assure me that it actually is downloading. How long does it take for Mavericks to download, typically? I have read that you can check the progress of Mavericks in launch pad, but Snow Leopard 10.6.8 does not have launch pad.

Any help would be great, I'm starting to get confused and a little frustrated.

Check under the "purchases" tab of the App store. You should see a progress bar there. It can take a while depending on the speed of your internet connection. The file is over 5 GB in size.

Thanks, but there is not a progress bar. In the purchases tab, all my other purchases are marked as "Install" excluding Mavericks, which is marked as "Download". When I click download, it ask's me to sign in again, even though on the actual "OS X Mavericks" page on the app store, the bar says "Downloading" as it's status.

Sign out of the App store, quit it, and log out. Log back in, open the app store, and sign back in. Attempt to click the "Download" button under the purchases tab. Any difference?

You can also try resetting the App Store.
