'no such entry found in hdb' messages in system log

OS X Server 3.0.2 / OS X 10.9.1. Running Open Directory. My system log ha a great many messages of the form:

Jan 13 15:23:06 abc.mydomain.com kdc[11057]: AS-REQ odserv.xyz.mydomain.com$@ODSERV.XYZ.MYDOMAIN.COM from 127.0.0.1:54769 for krbtgt/ODSERV.XYZ.MYDOMAIN.COM@ODSERV.XYZ.MYDOMAIN.COM

Jan 13 15:23:06 abc.mydomain.com kdc[11057]: UNKNOWN -- odserv.xyz.mydomain.com$@ODSERV.XYZ.MYDOMAIN.COM: no such entry found in hdb

They seem to occur as a result of various OD admin activities such as creatign a user or resettign a user's password. And in fact I am having problems with those operations; they give variosu strange errors implying my session is not authorised even though I connetced as an admin user.

Does anyone have any clues? What might the probelm be and how to resolve it? All other services and regular OD authentication is working just fine.

I am also seeing messages such as these:

13/01/2014 17:30:12.908 opendirectoryd[98090]: GSSAPI Error: Miscellaneous failure (see text (Server (krbtgt/MYDOMAIN.COM@ODSERVER.XYZ.MYDOMAIN.COM) unknown while looking up 'ldap/xxx.mydomain.com@MYDOMAIN.COM’ (cached result, timeout in 1200 sec) (negative cache))

I am now unable to create any new network users nor can I change the password for any exiting network users.

I tried re-kerberising as suggested by the Apple support note here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5289 but it didn't make any real difference.

Help!
