Q: in spite of having up to date software and resetting phone, my sleep button no longer responds.  I am unable to turn my phone off.

my sleep button stopped working. I have tried resetting my phone and my software is up to date. does anyone have a solution?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

    Sounds like a hardware problem, not a software problem.  Make a genius appointment and have them check it out for you.  If you are under warranty, it may be covered.  If not, you can get a replacement for the out of warranty exchange fee.

    A software workaround is Assistive Touch. Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > Device > Lock Screen. This can turn OFF the iPhone. To turn ON connect to power, charger or USB port of computer.
