Inconsistent Reporting of songs and photos

iTunes says I have 1164 songs on my iPhone in the text next to the Sync box when I've selected iPhone. The iPhone under Settings - General - About says the same thing, BUT when I point to the bar at the bottom if the iphone screen (where above it says I have 1164 songs) it tells me I have 1174 songs! There is no other place to put songs on the iPhone (such as there is with videos - in the Photos folder and then the show up there) so why such a weird conglomeration of different counts of songs?

Photos is worse: in the iPhone window, selecting Photos I'm told I have 18,098 photos, the iPhone says 18,022 and the Photos bar at the bottom says 18,147.

I know the reason for some of those inconsistencies. I have some short m4v movies in my Photos folder on my Mac. In the Photos folder, there are 37, 879 items (The get info on the photos folder). In the Photos folder there are 1708 items and in the iPod cache folderr, which iTunes creates to put the pics on the iPhone, there are 18.040 items. Now taking the 37,879 subtracting the 1708 gives me 36,171 and subtracting the 18,040 items gives me 18,131 items. ANOTHER count of photos! Now there are short videos in more than 1 folder and the iPhone finds them all and places them all in 1 folder, and I have 125 of them. If I subtract the 125 from the 18,131, I get 18, 006 photos - even ANOTHER count. Just to make it interesting, when I checked these numbers, I also had 35 photos in my Camera Roll.Those do NOT show up in the iTunes window until I extract them and place them in the Photos folder.

If iTunes is designed for iPhoto, then the whole count is meaningless, since they are assuming you have your pics in iPhoto, which I don't use. I manually organize my pics and Apple sorts by date - EVEN if I don't sort that way in my photos folder! (I sort Alphabetically in the photos folder on my Mac and my iPhone they sorted that way BUT inside the folders on the iPhone they are sorted by date, even though I have them sorted alphabetically in the folders on my Mac!
