Ipod Shuffle does not display in device list on laptop

I am trying to add music to my ipod shuffle. When I connect to the USB port, I do not have an option in itunes for devices. I can see it as an external drive on my computer and I can see the playlists, but cannot perform the actions per the instructions of "In Itune, select iPod shuffle in the list of devices. This my work computer and I also tried removing it from the docking station. I was trying this from home as well whereby I am not connected to a docking station.

I tried everything on the list including reinstalling Itunes and I cannot get the device to appear. Can someone just send me a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like in itunes? I also find it interesting that I was initially able to load my playlist onto the device but now it cannot see it. I can also see it in my drive listing. I also tried renaming my drive to a different letter. This very very frustrating beause I only have 10 songs on my shuffle and am a runner, and want to add more.
