My MacBook will not start up, it gets as far as a grey screen with the apple logo but won't go any further

😟 I'm unable to find the original disc I had with this and am really struggling to get this working again.

Since you indicated that your MBP came with installation discs, replacements can be obtained from Apple Customer Service. Have the serial number of your MBP ready when you call and there is a charge.

You also can take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

Ciao.

iRosnah,

Try booting into your Recovery partition by holding down the command and R keys whilst booting. Once in Recovery mode, use Disk Utility to Verify your flash storage partition (usually named "Macintosh HD"). If it fails to verify and says that the drive needs to be repaired, select the drive again and choose Repair.

If the drive can't be repaired you're going to have to take it to Apple.

Good luck,

Clinton

It now goes into a cycle of grey screen with multilingual message about something like "Your computer restarted because of a problem ---> apple logo with spinning wheel with some terminal commands at the upper left hand command that's visible for a few seconds --> grey screen with no entry sign ---> then back to that multilingual message and on and on...

When I power down and up again, even the initial restart sound is no longer there and back to the same cycle again...

...I just bought this about three weeks ago to replace my MBAir that got "pregnant" -- battery swollen :-)
