IMAC screen issue

I have an IMAc running Mac OS X ver 10.6.8. Recently my screen has started to blink onto a blank, light blue screen and then return back to whatever screen I was working with. This happens about 3 times a minute. I am not sure what may be happening. Anyone have any thoughts?
