Ipod Help

Hi! My Ipod won't connect to itunes.I have a toshiba that runs Windows 7. Everytime I try it, it pops up with this message saying "This Ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64-bit version of itunes" Now I tried to reinstall the itunes and it said everything was up to date.. but I dont know what the itunes installer is.. Please I would be very greatful for the help!!!! Thank you!
