Target Display Mode Hardware requirements

Hi, i got a 21.5 inch mid 2010 iMac and i want to use the iMac as a monitor for my PC. While researching i read that only 27 inch iMacs (late 2009 or newer) or 21.5 inch iMacs with thunderbolt support Target Display Mode. (My iMac does not support it)

btw, my graphics card got a Displayport, so i could technical use a Mini-Displayport to Displayport Adapter but it doesnt work :/

My Questions:

1. What are the hardware/software requirements for Target Display Mode?

2. Is there any other way to use my 21.5 iMac as a monitor for PC? (i tried screen-recycler, but it laggs and stutters quiet much)

I hope someone can answer my question, even if it is a bit complicated and not explained well.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
