My time machine says "backup disk is not available. make sure the back up disk is connected"

Time machine worked fine for 2 years and now is giving me the message "backup disk not available" I tried re starting the computer, turning off and back on the wifi, still not luck. Any suggestions?

Time Machine-OTHER, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
