HP Laserjet 4L driver for Maverick

Recently my HP Laserjet 4L printer has been erratic so I treid to reinstall it. Once I disconnected it, it would not allow me to find the driver. Apple does not support. I can't afford to throw away a very good printer. Any help or ideas please

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

The orignal HP Laserjet 4L was never supported with Macs. 4ML printer does not have USB or ethernet port. How are you connecting to your Mac and what OS version on your Mac ? a parallel converter ?

The HP laserjet 4ml was the mac version with postscript language. If you have a real Laserjet 4ML with postscript, how are you connecting the Mac and printer ?

I am using the original 4L. It has been working fine until Maverick came along. The printer would pause after priniting one page and wouldn't start. Connection I have is a USB parallel convertor. Using OS 10.9.1 Will a 4ML driver work and is this supported I tried to use Gutenprint but got very confusing. I also have a HP Officejet H470 and it does not want to load its drivers from the Apple Store.

Very frustrating
