Quicktime Web Videos will not play - Safari or Chrome

Can you share a link so we can check the file and page code.

I have no issues using Safari 7 and Mavericks 10.9.1 and any of your pages.

It's not the files or the page code.

Under the Safari Help menu choose "Installed Plug-Ins" and post back.

Open this folder:

HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and drag the WebSlingPlayer Plug-in to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari and test agin.

I have an iMac that cannnot play embeded Quicktime movies on webpages in Safari, it is like it doesn't even load the element on the page; there is no error and only a big blank space on the webpage... Oddly enough Firefox works fine and these videos play fine on dozens of other computer (both Mac and Windows based).

I suspect the basic problem here stems from the manner in which the files were created/transcoded for posting to the internet.

As you can see in the image above, the file was written by an older verion of VLC. Basically, the user applied settings that created a Main Profile, Level 5.1 MPEG-4 AVC (a bit of overkill here for the display dimensions) and VLC failed to properly identify the video container "Muxing mode:" for the file. Thus, the ability to play the content will depend on the specific player software in use and how it's error trapped. For instance, the original file will open and play in both QT7 and the QT 7 browser plug-in under Mavericks but will not open in the QT 7 v10.3 player. Further, this particular file was originally recorded as a 16:9 anamorphic file but ended up as a 4:3 aspect non-anamorphic file when exported by the user from VLC.

To fix the file, I re-muxed the content to an M4V file container, changed the "Muxing mode:" entry to read a more universally compatible "Container profile=Main @3.1" to fool players having a problem with the file, and reset the aspect ratio to 16:9 based on the encoded display height as seen here:

Now the file opens correctly in all of the media players I currently have installed on my Mavericks system, as well as, all of my mobile devices.

Thanks, but QuickTimeKirk's solution to delete my SlingPlayer plug-in resolved the issue.

Yes, it corrected the browser problem on your system (which was already not a problem on either QTKirk's or my system) but does not address other problems with the files which may prevent them from opening on system players or mobile devices and/or playing correctly in all players/on all devices.

I too am having a problem with quicktime working in Safari, Firefox and Chrome. I am posting a picture of the plug-ins as my plug-in is not the same as the post above. please help!

I have deleted both plugins but the video still does not open... Is there any others i should delete?

In my case I can view the Quicktime videos online but not locally, I have a ? on top of the quicktime logo in the middle of the screen.
