MTP USB Device failed to install

Firstly, my iPhone is not visible in My Computer. Secondly, it keeps failing to install MTP USB Device. Everytime I plug my iPhone into my computer it tries to install the drivers for MTP USB Device but it keeps failing. I have tried going into the registry and finding UpperFilters, but there are none. Also tried reinstalling iTunes twice, still does not work. Any suggestions?

I am having this same issue. Windows 7. The "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" seems to be working fine, but there's an exclamation point under "Portable Devices" for the "MTP USB Device". These two items pop up when I connect by iPhone 5s to my PC using the USB cable.

In the "Devices and Printers" control panel, two items pop up when I plug the phone in -- Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, and iPhone. The iPhone icon has an exclamation point beside it. Windows troubleshooting did not fix it. Uninstalling all apple software (iTunes, Bonjour, etc.) did not fix it. Updating the chipset did not fix it. Changing the properties of either of these devices to point to the usbaapl driver did not fix it.

Any other advice?

I'm having a similar issue, although I have Window's Vista.

When I plug my iPhone 4S into the USB port, it says it doesn't recognize the device. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 2x. I've also re-set my iPhone. My iPhone is not showing up on my computer or in Device Manager. Any suggestions would be great, I feel like I'm clicking in circles every time someone suggests an Apple Support page...

BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY!!! Editing the registry can be (read: IS) dangerous and can cause no end of pain if done incorrectly.

- To Back Up your Registry: Click START menu and click RUN. Type REGEDIT. Click File, then choose Export and type a name for the Registry Backup, something like REGBACKUP012015 or whatever works for you.

- Click Export and let it export the registry to a file.

- To fix the issue: Follow the folder tree on the left to: HKeyLocalMachine > System > Current Control Set > Control > Class

- Find {EEC5AD98-8080-425F-922A-DABF3DE3F69A} down the LEFT hand side and click on it.

- Under the list on the RIGHT hand side find UpperFilters

- Right-Click UpperFilters and click Delete

- Close the registry editor and restart your PC (without the iphone attached).

- Once restarted and logged back in, plug in your iphone and voila! Windows will actually choose the correct driver.
