tiger vs. leopard?

I was reading online that Apple will soon be upgrading the OS Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5)... what does this mean?

New MB's have Tiger installed, so are we missing out on the newest OS? Are they significantly different? I thought Tiger was the new OS... I don't want to spend another $99 upgrading to 10.5. thanks for any clarification.

User uploaded fileTiger is the name of OS X 10.4 and Leopard is the name of the next release numbered 10.5. It is similar to the difference between Windows XP and Windows Vista. it is just the next version.

Leopard will be previewed at the World Wide Developer Conference in early August and it likely to be released in the first half of 2007.

No worries. You got the latest OS release.

Yes, Apple will be releasing Leopard soon, and yes, 10.4 was new for a while, but Apple releases new versions of OS X every year or so. It isn't necessary, however, to upgrade right away. I'm not sure if 10.5 will be much different than 10.4, as Apple usually keeps these things pretty secret until they are released.

User uploaded file "I've been wrestling with WinXP since '01!"

So has Microsoft - LOL!

At the last WWDC, Steve Jobs did say that the furious pace of OS X updates would slow a bit. The nice thing about Mac OS updates is that they do actually make changes to the way things work instead of just putting a new face on the old OS.

Tiger introduced Dashboard, Automator, and Spotlight and I am sure that there will be surpises in store for us in 11 days at the WWDC keynote when Steve previews Leopard.
