Cannot rename folder in SMB2 share

Cross-posting this here, for the benefit of others. This comes from the EMC Community Network forum, and I have filed a bug with Apple about this:

https://community.emc.com/message/786847

Problem:
Cannot rename a folder with Finder in an SMB2 share

Workaround:

  • Use the command line to rename the folder
  • Or, force the Mac to mount with SMB1 (via cifs:// in the Finder > Connect to server, or via /etc/nsmb.conf)

Cause:

In the ACL on the folder, you have to make sure that the delete permission is granted. Finder seems to need this in order to give users the ability to rename.

Seen with:

OS X Mavericks, 10.9.0, 10.9.1 connecting to Windows 7 SMB2 share or EMC Isilon OneFS SMB2 share.
