Changing Picture size (pdf file) in Preview

I am attempting to reduce the size of a pdf image (actual picture size not file size). When I try to access the Tools~adjust size menu it is greyed out. I have tried this with a couple of images with the same outcome.

{a PS to my earlier post...}

In Preview, choose Grab, (makes a screenshot to desktop) select area of image you want. Mine chose to save as .TIFF, but I chose Save As, then .jpg from the Preview menu. This also went to desktop. All from a .pdf sent to me in an email earlier today. Since you can't drag an image directly from a .pdf file, but you can use grab or use the keyboard commands to make a screenshot image capture. And it will only resize to the best of the image quality available, so down is likely while up-sizing is less likely to be of quality. A .tiff is a larger file size than an image capture of the .tiff saved as jpg.

So this looks like a way to do it...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Depending on the OS X version you have in the computer,

the options available in Preview may vary somewhat.

Are you looking to resize just one page/image of a .pdf?

You could make a screen capture of it then change that.

And if you'd modified the default capture from .png to jpg

then it's even easier to do more with it later on.

And if the image itself is fairly good quality, enough to get

a clear image capture in screenshot (or if Grab would do)

resizing in Preview or in an empty browser window is easy.

You can make other screenshots to capture a changed size.

I'm sure there probably is another way to do it in software,

maybe even a pro application to extract images if the .pdf

is not locked or copywrite protected in content. I've used

a minimalistic way & that does OK for most things in Mac.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
