Are Apple ID and Password the same as iCloud

I reset my Apple ID password and it was accepted. However, when my icloud account asks for my Apple ID password, it says it's incorrect and it can't verify the account.

I should've mentioned that my Apple ID email address is not the same as my icloud address. I didn't think they were supposed to be, but your response makes me wonder. . . .
