USB port differences in power and DAC behaviour

I am running a late 2008 Unibody Macbook under OS X 10.8.5.

I am getting problems with a USB DAC on one port (front) but not the other (rear). I faintly remember that the two ports have different current/power ratings, but I haven't been able to confirm this from specs online.

Can anyone confirm my faint memory?

And otherwise, any reason a DAC would be unstable (producing clicks and pops) on one port and not the other?

It's funny... I was researching a differnt problem and ran across your port, and the answer to your question. The front and rear ports are different. The rear is used for usb keyborads and mice, and will impact the quality of the signal to the DAC. Here is the link to what was reading..
