Port Forwarding

Hi all

I have a new security system that connects to the iparadox app. I can connect through the local network, but unable to connect outside of that. I have been told that port 10000 is required to access it via the app, but have done this and checked to see if it is open on www.yougetsignal.com.

Do I need to open something else? Unfortunatley my alarm company has washed their hands of it and said, its working and the port forward issue is not their domain.

I've looked at many different websites and googled it a lot and I think I may have to register a DCHP? for the static IP address I have, or try and open it up someway but arent sure. Can anyone please help?

Thanks I look forward to hearing from someone.

Regards

You need to understand the difference between your public IP ..

Go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/

There in all its glory is your actual real internet IP.

You have to access your network on that IP.

On your LAN you need to set a static IP on the security whatever.. and forward the port to it. You do not use that IP from WAN .. it is meaningless.. only the local IP. It will be 10.0.1.x or 192.168.1.x or something like that.

Then when you setup port forwarding you will know the address won't change.

That would be the end of it if your ISP didn't keep changing your public IP.. but most do..

So you need to register for a dynamic DNS.. and that depends on what is the main router in the network.

You may not find this easy with the new AE.. but look at Tesserax info about global DNS address here.

The port forwarding info might also be a help to you.

Hi there, thanks for this. Sorry, my IP does have a static and I have set this up and used another port (port 80) and can access this externally from any computer or IOS device. Its the iparadox app that requires port 10000 and I have this set up the same way as port 80, but still nothing?

I have created the same port by putting in a comma eg. 80,10000 created completed additional ones and it still doesnt appear to work?

paradoxmyhome.com also has a DNS system which I have registered for but still nothing....?? Does this make more sense?

Yeap..

A quick google and it seems the dns system doesn't work.

See user comments there.

If you have a static public IP just use a web page or the app and connect to

100.101.102.103:10000

Where that is your home IP and the port you opened for the app.

I have a strong idea that port opening can be an issue..

Let me suggest you test this directly..

Put the computer running whatever this app is or the box of tricks whatever it is, directly onto your internet no router.. so the box gets public IP.

If it is a computer software you will need to turn off the firewall so the port is able to be accessed. Test that now even with the router in place.

Then with no NAT translation to worry about see if you can access the device/software control.

Once you prove it works.. with NO NAT.. then you can go back to bashing away at the AE..

Reset to factory and port forward just 10000, no other port. And see how it goes.
