Old ipod- not working. Please Help!!!!

My uncle gifted one ipod this month (January 2014). Its a 30gb ipod classic. It was brand new and unused since 2008. Firstly for 2 days it went smoothly. But after that battery got down and it is even not starting. I have tried it in disk mode and reset the ipod but still it is not working. Is it repairable? Please reply asap and if it is then how much it will cost?

P.S. The Serial No. is- 9C724HXJV9N When i am charging it firstly battery low sign comes and a wheel is revolving constantly. After few seconds it becomes black and a apple sign is flashed, very feeble crackle sound is also coming after sometimes. A few minutes later it lightens up, battery low sign comes with apple's support website link.I am absolutely clueless whats going on.. please help!!!
