I'm having issues backing up time machine onto my external mybook live drive. Everything says its connected properly but everytime I ask it to back up now it says it cannot complete backup bc backup drive is unavailable. This thing is about to drive me crazy. has anyone else had this issue?

Time Machine storage hard drive (i.e. the drive things are backed up onto) must be connected directly to the server.
Various manufacturers have supplied hacks to make their network drives targetable by Time Machine, but this is not supported by Apple and Apple is not responsible if backups using them fail.
I am having this same issue now as well. I keep receiving the error message that "/Volumes/Backups/username.sparsebundle" is already in use. I've disconnected users through File Sharing on the app with no success.
I have seen other people report this problem with a Time Capsule and the solution has been to restart the TC. I cannot consistently restart my server because of a situation like this.
