Q: I received an email confirming a downgrade of iCloud storage…but I didn't request anything. What's going on?

We received an email yesterday confirming a downgrade...maybe it's a New Year thing (as we removed our credit card info. from the account last fall), but we haven't, to our knowledge, changed anything. Any idea how this was generated?

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

If you were a Mobile Me user before Apple discontinued the service, you received a much larger storage capacity as part of your membership. As Apple phased out that service and transitioned Mobile Me (a paid service) to iCloud, it extended the extra storage capacity of Mobile Me members at no charge for a year. Unfortunately, when you reach that point, your free storage drops to the iCloud default amount, triggering the email notification you received.
