Looking to hook up another monitor to iMac

Hi, I'm looking to hook up another monitor to my Late 2009 iMac, however I'm a little unsure whether it is possible

Assuming the thing has any of these inputs it's fine:

Mini-display port

DVI

HDMI

VGA

You will need an adapter as a your late 2009 iMac has minidisplay port output. You will probably need a mini-display port to DVI, HDMI, or VGA adapter. Apple sells all of them in it's online store.
