Can I clone Mavericks with file vault activated?

That's the question. Or do I need to decrypt the drive first? Moving the system to a SSD.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

You don't have to decrypt it. You do have to boot into Recovery mode and then unlock the volume in Disk Utility before copying it.
