backing up iPhoto to cd

I am wanting to restore/reload my O.S. on my iMac and then to reload, one-by-one, the software packages that I've been using. The ones that I'm most concerned about are:

  1. Mail
  2. Calendar
  3. Notes
  4. Contacts
  5. iPhoto

I'm guessing that for iPhoto, all I would need to do is to copy the iPhoto folder and then after the restore, delete off my disk the iphoto that got created and replace it with my saved copy. Where have I gone wrong here?

For the others I'm totally lost. Can anyone one here help in pointing/directing me on how to do this? Thanks in advance.

For the first four I'd ask on the Using Mac OS X forum for your version of the OS. These move around from version to version.

To back up iPhoto:

Most Simple Back Up:

Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.

Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.

Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
