mail and mavericks help

I am experiencing problems in Mail after downloading Mavericks on my MacBook Pro and Air. Is there a recent patch available?

While your answer was helpful I had already read and done the things you suggested on the MacBook Pro. Mavericks was downloaded on the MacBook Pro in December and it appears the patch was included in that version and there is no additional patch. Mail still does not work well.

I have not yet tried to do the patch on the MacBook Air, which had Mavericks downloaded in October.
