Ipod hifi battery use

I believe that there are some tech. problems behind the reason that they do not make the built in recharging batteries e.g. discharging too fast or the recharging battery need to be replaced more frequent

I would also like to see an iPod HiFi capable of charging batteries. I can see that the 1.2 volt output of a NiMH rechargeable battery vis the 1.5 volts of an alkaline could be a problem (7.2 volts vs 9 volts). I notice some devices (Tivoli Song Book for example) have a change over switch for when you use the different types of batteries. I can understand Apple not wanting to inflict this level of complication upon their users.

Personally I haven't bought the iPod HiFi. I keep hoping a revised version will address a few of the issues I have, of which ecologically unsound (and costly) throw away batteries are one.

I honestly don't think Apples intent was for the Hi-Fi to be remarkable via battery use. Due to the weight and size of this unit, its really not a feasible unit for portable use. Sure, you can do it, but I can't see myself lugging this big boy around. I think there are many other solutions that may not provide nearly the sound quality, but will most certainly be lighter and provide much, much better battery useage including rechargeables.

I suppose there are some situations where I could see myself using the Hi-Fi on batteries, but those situations would be far and few between, so buying regular good alkalines would be no big deal. My understanding battery life isn't that good anyway.
