I'm having this same problem. I regain the camera when I revert to a backup before the last update (10.9.2). As soon as I upgrade to 10.9.2 again, I have the same problem. I've attempted to locate a driver download, with no avail...

Habe you tried utilizing a 3rd party cable (6 pin (into camera) to 9 pin ( into adapter) FireWire) then attaching it to the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter? Mine was having the same issue and now it works perfectly. It's good to mention that I had tried an "Insight" adapter that contains an adapter and a cord to add to the apple adapter. This setup will not work. it has to be a set-up where the Apple FireWire adapter is the only one on the chain.
