How do I repair a damaged partition map

How do I repair a damaged partition map

I have 2 hard drives with partitions that are not readable, by my computer. I am running 10.5.8 I want to know what options to I have to repair the Partion Map Table, so I can retrieve my data from these 2 drives?

As my data is very important, I want to sincerely thank you in advance for any help you are able to offer.

Diskwarrior is probably the most recommended for bad directories, but if that extends to partition maps I don't know.

"Important data" and no backup? When I was a student I maintained 2 backups in different parts of town (pre-Internet days).
