Can't get sound thru Denon receiver AVR 1609

I have my DVD plugged in to my Denon AVR 1609 Receiver

I have my Apple TV also plugged in to the receiver using both an optical and HDMI cable

I connect the receiver and TV with an HDMI cable

I get the DVD's video to the TV and Audio to the speakers as I want

I can only get Apple TV's sound through the TV; not the receiver's speakers 😟
