My iPhone 5 (one year and 2 months old) suddenly went dead; there was no response whenI plug the charer in. Is it the battery problem?

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.
Is it still charging if you use the adapter? If yes, let it charge for about 15min, then connect in recovery mode, explained here:
