i can't log into my macbook pro, help!

so i just put a password on my macbook pro and then i tested it and it worked but my username was "home" so i logged in and changed it. i also thought i would change the icon picture too. When i clicked the lock to save changes i had to log in but the "home" user came up and so i assumed it hadnt changed the username so i proceeded to type in my passcode. i then wanted to text it so i closed the laptop, waited a couple of moments and opened it back up. i tried my passcode and it wont work. the icon photo hasnt changed and the username is still "home". i really need to access my laptop so please help! also i dont want to lose any of my photos/notes/files. please help!
