Why can't I use my calender on my iPhone 5? When I say use it I mean I can't add events to it. I am also having the same issue with reminders. I reviewed some similar posts so I have turned both on in iCloud I have shut phone off then on.
I am really regretting updating. I had the 4 for over 2 years and it was the greatest phone

Have you tried resetting your iPhone?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Are you synching your calendar with a cloud-based account?
Reset did nothing
no just the app that came on phone
If u use mac like (imac, mini mac, macpro) u can do that through itunes.. or else update it to gmail and sync from it..
I cant just have a seperate calendar on my phone where i can put birthdays and appointments in, like ive had on all my cell phones since the 90's
You have a calendar on your phone. Maybe you can tell us step-by-step what you're doing so we can tell you what you're doing wrong.
I open app and cannot get it to allow me to type in my appt or events. Same for the reminder app. When I open my calender the plus symbol is light gray and any other tool is bright red. Reminder app all is light gray
Did you ever figure out your problem? I am having the same problem with my calendar and it won't let me add any events. The plus symbol in the corner is a grey colour and I don't know what to do.

Switch the options in Settings > iCloud >
Calendars: ON
Reminders: ON
