Imac 27 freezes only mouse moves

Hi,

I experience often a freeze of my IMac 27 running OS X 10.9. The freeze happens when I'm using safari and only the mouse pointer moves, everything else is freezed. The only solution is to reboot the IMac. I start experiencing this more after 10.9 update.

Hi Andrea !

I have the same problem for about 3 months now.

Apple doesn't find anything on my mac, neither does the reseller.

Have you found a solution ?

No yet! I tought I fixed it by doing a clean reinstall of OSX 10.9 but yesterday it did it again after 2 weeks from the reinstall. I tried also as suggested by Apple PRAM reset and SMC reset. I ran also the mac diagnostic from startup. Bu nothing. It always happens with Safari!

Me too. My 27" 2009 iMac freezes every couple of days or so when running Safari. Mouse moves but nothing else, need to restart. Irritation. If anybody figures this out would really like to hear how to fix.

I also have this problem with my iMac 27 2012. The screen randomly turns on while its alseep and is frozen. I've come home from class twice to it beeing on and frozen and its woken me up a couple times already. All in just a week. I dont like having to shut down everytime I leave the computer for a few hours...anyone think they can help?

Weird that Apple doesn't reply on this problem. If you google it, many macs suffer from the same symptoms.

An if you find somebody who solved the issue, every time they have a different solution...

I have this exact same problem. If I don't use Safari, my Mac is 100% rock solid - it never crashes. If I do use Safari, I can guarantee that the UI will crash after a while so that the only interaction I have with the computer is through the mouse, which can be moved around the screen but clicking has no effect.

Note that in most respects the computer is still running - I use Radium to listen to internet radio and this will continue playing. This shows that the operating system is still pretty much running fine, certainly all the parts of it that govern connections to the internet and playing sound.

I have had this problem for quite a few years now and so have had to switch to using Firefox for web browsing, which is not exactly a big hardship, but I do wish I were able to use Safari as it just is snappier with a number of websites.

My Mac is a late 2009 iMac 27 (ATI Radeon HD4850) running Mavericks 10.9.2 with 16GB RAM. I have often wondered if this is a graphics issue, maybe with the drivers, but since there is never any indication in any log of the problem I cannot pin it down in any way. I keep hoping that a system update will fix the problem but it never has yet.

I just had again the same problem. Next step is throwing away my Safari app.

Now I started using Chrome. Let's hope this works.
