I have a new MacBook Air, purchased 9/2013. Upgraded to Mavericks. I have software that has to run on windows 8 pro. I have installed windows 8 pro and can boot it up. I have bootcamp 5.1. I have tried all of the recommendations and windows cannot find any wireless networks or devices. I have run ot of ideas...any help appreciated. I have 10.9.1 OSX....thank you! Tom

Did you follow the Bootcamp instructions and download Windows Support Drivers?
Did you install them?
I did. First issue was installing Windows 8, bought a external drive. Installed fine. Have done the bootcamp 3 times, ran the setup.exe, no positive results
Did you download the support drivers from the Apple Support site or through Bootcamp Assistant?
Do you know which version you have?
I have bootcamp 5.1, it was an auto download from Apple update. I downloaded the files from Bootcamp assistant onto a flash drive. Then ran setup.exe, the process went fine, but no positive results in Windows, same message in Windows, can't find device or wireless.
Interesting. I've heard of this problem with Windows 8.1 (for which there are no drivers yet) but not with Windows 8.
I just went into bootcamp/windows. I have Windows 8.1 Pro. So that must be the issue. From your note I understand that there are no drivers as of yet, so for now it simply won't work. How do I know when there will be drivers for 8.1 - and thank you for your time and efforts....tom
We don't really know when 8.1 drivers will be available. Just keep your eye out on here for future developments.
A friend recommended Parallels, they tout it works with WPro 8.1. Do you know anything about this?
Parallels and VMWare Fusion are both virtualization programs which allow Windows to be virtualized on a Mac. These programs are not free.
There is also VirtualBox which is free and does the same thing.
These programs run Windows as a virtual machine. They do not allow Windows to use your hardware natively so gaming is very limited. If you aren't planning on gaming in Windows it may well be sufficient to use virtualization.
