My Macbook will not boot up. It will only beep three times and then shut down. Is this a hard drive issue or is it related to the RAM chips?

beep = no RAM installed
beeps = incompatible RAM types
beeps = no good banks
beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
beeps = processor is not usable
