Hello,

Do you think you have some malware that needs removal, or just for assurances?

Have you installed something that may be questionable or causing problems?

ClamXAV, free Virus scanner...

Free Sophos...

Thank you for the reply. There is something happening in my browsers, both safari and chrome, where hyperlinks to adds appear and ads that just start playing; even on a web page I created where I know that such hyperlinks should not exist.

Is this a virus of some sort? Would you know? I had something similar happening on my PC and the IT department used superantispyware to remove it but they do not make superantispyware for Mac

thanks again

Most probably an adware extension that you've installed. Read through this Adware Removal Guide and see if that helps. Start with Glims.
