Sim , network swap

I have an iPhone 4S from phones 4 u that iv upgraded i gave it to my partner but I was on orange and she is on O2 I'd assume the phone was unlocked having not come from an orange shop can anyone help with what to do , as I believe that iPhones lock to the first sim installed iv reset the whole phone with the same results
