I have a macbook air owned by my school. I resently put my imessage account on it the same one that I also use on my ipod but i would like to delete it off of my laptop but I can't figure out how. Please help!
You seem to be talking about Mail, not Messages. Open Mail, go to Mail, Preferences, Accounts. Highlight the account you want to get rid of an d click the "-" button near the bottom of the window. That will delete the account and all its messages
after doing this , the email still shows up and says Inactive, Is there a way to remove it complelty?
Open iMessage, go to Messages top left, and then select Preferences. Select 'Accounts' and then simply 'Sign out'. That should do it.

Richiec1 is referring to iMessages as I have the same issue. Similar to him I have a work computer that I many need to return to my employer and I don't want anyone to be able to see that I have/had an account in iMessages and risk them re-activating it. Even after I signed out as you suggested. The email address that is my Apple ID still shows up along with Bonjour. Both show an inactive.
I also went to mail as you suggested and didn't know that there was an account active there as well, so thanks for your tip as I deleted that account completely.

Open the Messages app. Go to Messages>Preferences>Accounts. Select the iMessages account and sign out.
